I have had a passion for BBQ as long as I can remember. Growing up on a hog farm in Stockbridge, Mi. taught me many life lessons – hard work, patience, and a lot about hogs! Those lessons led me to open a retail smokehouse in Chelsea, Mi. In that time, I read, studied, and watched everything I could that was BBQ. I also realized that opening a real pit BBQ joint is what I wanted to do.

So I reached out to the best there is, Mike “the Legend” Mills of 17th St. BBQ, the only 3 time World Grand Champion of Memphis in May! After a few phone conversations, I traveled south to learn his secrets and techniques that make championship BBQ I worked closely with Mike, his daughter Amy, and his pit masters in his restaurants. I came home and started to build Smokehouse 52 and trained the only other person that knows all of my secrets to BBQ and has been our pit master since the day we opened, my own brother, Jason.

I wanted a BBQ joint that served great BBQ with great Hospitality and you felt at home. So everything from our wood fired pits, barn beams, and homemade sauces are truly authentic! When you eat our BBQ enjoy the experience and the story. Think about the brisket and pork shoulders slow smoked for up to 18 hours with wood usually from my own farm!
